Fringeworks / Dead Men's Tales Update

Update: Just to let everyone know, Dead Men's Tales, with my story Skarett's Treasure, was published in February 2017. You can find it HERE.

I received an e-mail yesterday from Melissa Black, the editor of Fringeworks' Dead Men's Tales anthology. If you've read my other posts on this, you know my story, Skarett's Treasure, was to be included, but it seemed as if the project had stalled and was in danger of disappearing altogether. It's been a long time coming, but she confirmed it is to come out during the third quarter of this year (around September?). The cover art is almost complete and the project is moving forward!

That's all for now, but I hope to have more on this soon!

Thanks! Now I have to see if anything's happening with my OTHER story at Fringeworks (The Fisherman and his Wife - fairytale rework). Maybe they strung some barbed wire around those pins and needles!

I've never known a publisher be this slow with publishing a story before.

Just sent back the final edits on "The Fisherman and His Wife." From what I understand, they are still trying to find a cover artist. Maybe someday!

October and still waiting on Dead Mens Tales. When she said things would start being quicker I thought she actually meant it.

Yeah... I know what you mean. I really thought we'd at least see a finished cover by now. And the only mention of the story on the Fringeworks site is http://www.fringeworks.co.uk/blog/?p=969 .

How long does it really take for someone to write an introduction to an anthology? Fringeworks must be the slowest publisher in the world.

I managed to get a response direct from the publisher, and they have said that it is definitely being published in about 2 week's time.

I've Had Enough Fun With Simily

Just a reminder: It’s okay to leave comments! I think it's time to end my experiment with  Simily .  via GIPHY I received this email from Simily this morning (June 14, 2023): Wednesday June 13, 2023 Important Changes to the Simily Platform To Our Fellow Similians, Simily’s mission has always been to build a place where creative writers and readers can thrive online. As the platform has grown, we noticed a shift in the quality of content and engagement on the site which took us further away from this mission. Over the past few months, our small team has spent countless hours and resources defending the site from bad actors focused on driving spam and bot traffic. (If you’ve been with us for a while, you understand the bumps in the road and we can’t thank you enough for sticking with us!)   It’s time we bring our focus back to creating a social platform that allows creators to share high-quality writing with an engaged audience.    We’ve spoken to hundreds of you...

FSF Challenge - Doors

This week's writing challenge from Five Sentence Fiction (  Lillie McFerrin Writes  ) is based upon the prompt: Doors What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie posts one word for inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown... Oblivious To Oblivion      As the students and teachers made their way out of the designated shelter rooms in the center of the school, the principal remarked how they had all survived the tornado with just a few minor injuries even though the storm had blown out most of the doors and windows, and water and mud were everywhere.     "All except for Kyle," a girl replied, nearly in tears.     "He was outside during the storm?"     "He was going to sneak into one of the dugouts at the ball field...
